Mr. Najib Choucair

Jury Biography: Mr. Choucair is an active member of the Open Market Committee and the Early Warning Committee and a contributor to Doing Business-World Bank.
Mr. Choucair has organized and participated in a number of conferences and seminars held jointly with IMF, AMF, World Bank, EIB and IFC.
Previously, he launched initiatives to promote micro-credit, lending to SME's and the establishment of Registry for Movable Assets, the financial statement center for corporate and out of court workout.
Mr. Choucair is responsible for public credit registry, unpaid checks center, examination of banks' applications for the establishment of new branches and other requests, supervision of the financial situation of banks and their sources and use of funds, cost of funds and interest revenues, analysis of credits granted by the depository institutions to the private and public sector, utilization of the legal reserve requirement in order to encourage banks to lend to special economic activities, and amelioration and deterioration of loan portfolio of the banking sector.

Mr. Wael Hamdan

Jury Biography: Mr. Wael Hamdan studied at the American University of Beirut (AUB) and graduated with a bachelor degree in Business Administration in 1983. He joined the Banking Control Commission at BDL in 1984. He graduated with a master’s degree in Money and Banking from AUB in 1987 and passed the Certified Public Accounted exam (CPA) in 1993 after two years of training with Deloitte & Touche in USA. Mr. Hamdan was an instructor at AUB and at the Lebanese American University (LAU) for 14 years. He was appointed Board Member of Ogero from 1988 to 1998.

Mr. Hamdan was appointed and elected for five consecutive years in the Lebanon Association for Certified Public Accountants between 1994 and 1998. Mr. Hamdan is the Executive director at BDL and has been Head of the Financing Unit. Mr. Hamdan has also been Head of Finance at Middle East Airlines since 1997.
Mr. Maroun Chammas

Jury Biography: Mr. Maroun Chammas is a serial entrepreneur with activities ranging from oil and gas to telecom. In 1986, after graduating from Boston University’s MBA program, Mr.Chammas joined the family business as Operations Manager for the Chammas Group of Companies which core business is in the import, trading, storage, transportation and distribution of refined petroleum products for the Lebanese and surrounding regional markets. In 1995, Mr. Chammas acquired an important stake in Data Management and later became a leading ISP provider through a series of mergers. Several companies related to the internet, IT and communication businesses were then created. These companies employ more than 1,000 professionals in the IT sector and are associated to International firms such as BT, AT&T and others. Mr. Chammas was appointed Chairman of the Board and Managing Director of Berytech, the Technology Pole affiliated to the St. Joseph University of Beirut (USJ). Berytech helps entrepreneurs set up and create their business by providing counselling and support to their enterprise. Subsequently Mr. Chammas set up the Berytech venture fund I in 2008 ($6M), and Berytech fund II in 2015 ($50M) to help entrepreneurs in equity investment.

Mr. Chammas currently holds the following positions:

Jury Biography: Mrs. Tania Moussallem has about 20 years of banking experience and is currently the Assistant General Manager heading the Support and Marketing Groups at BLC bank after having spent 6 years as Head of Strategic Development and Financial Management Group.

Since September 2015, she became as well Chair of the Global Banking Alliance for Women (GBA). The GBA is an organization that brings together banks and financial institutions from all over the world to develop strategies for the promotion of women’s economic empowerment. In 2015, she has been selected among the most influential women in the Arab Banking Sectors by the Union of Arab Banks.

She joined BLC bank in 2008 where she conducted several strategic and innovative development projects involving external and organic growth for the bank. She has been on USB Bank Board of Directors (Cypriot subsidiary of BLC Bank) and sits on several committees in BLC Bank. She started her career at Société Générale de Banque au Liban where she held several managerial positions in the Corporate and Investment Banking Division. In parallel, she built a solid experience in privatization of the energy, water and waste water sectors.

She holds a master’s degree in Finance & Communication from Ecole Superieure des Sciences Economiques et Commerciales ESSEC, France and a degree in Business Administration from AUB.
Mrs. Christina CHEHADE

Jury Biography: Mrs.Christina Chehade has more than 12 years of experience in financial advisory and venture capital and entrepreneurship support.
She is currently a Managing Director at Endeavor Lebanon, an economic development non-profit that supports high impact entrepreneurs transform economies. She leads Endeavor Lebanon’s Partner, Mentor and Investor Networks. Prior to Endeavor, she was a Venture Partner for MEVP, a Beirut-based venture capital fund.
Before her return to Lebanon, Christina was an M&A Associate Director at Nomura Code Securities in London, leading several Biotech transactions and an M&A Associate covering healthcare, consumer goods and retail at HSBC Investment Banking in London and Paris.
Prior to
her banking experience, she was a product manager at Novartis Pharma France and started her career as a researcher at the American University of Beirut Biology department.
She holds an MBA from the ESSEC Business School in France as well as an MSc and BSc in Biology from the American University of Beirut, Lebanon.
Christina is married with three children.

Jury Biography: Mrs. Mona Bou Azza Bawarshi holds an MBA from AUB. She is Owner and CEO of Gezairi Transport Group of Companies, a family owned Freight Forwarding, Shipping, and Logistics Company based in Lebanon with branches in Turkey, USA, Jordan, Iraq and Cyprus.

Mrs. Bawarshi is an active Licensed Customs Broker in Lebanon and a member of the Lebanese Vessels Owners Committee, International Federation of Freight Forwarders Association (FIATA) in Zurich, International Air Transport Association (IATA) in Geneva and Lebanese Management Association (LMA) in Beirut and is on the Advisory Board of The Institute for Family and Entrepreneurial Business at LAU.

Mrs. Bawarshi is a true believer in social work, philanthropy, and education. She is a founding member of Injaz, the President of Abdul Salam Bou Azza El-Gezairi Charity Foundation, member of the Board of Trustees of Makassed Philanthropic Islamic Association of Beirut, and member of the Board of Trustees of the International College (IC) Board of Trustees.
Mrs. Bawarshi is a highly respected social and business figure. She is recognized and listed among the Most Influential Arab Women by Forbes, CEO Middle East and Arabian Business.
Dr. Khater Abi Habib

Jury Biography: Dr. Khater Abi Habib was born in 1951 in Roumieh, El Maten, Lebanon. He is holder of a BA in Economics; MA in Economics & Governmental Studies; Ph.D. in Government and Social Anthropology, all from the University of Manchester, UK. He occupied the positions of Delegated Member of the Board of Directors, then he became Vice President of the Lebanese Swiss Bank S.A.L. He is currently the Chairman and General Manager of both the National Institute for the Guarantee of Deposits and Kafalat S.A.L.
Ms. Yolla Sarieddine

Jury Biography: Ms. Yolla Sarieddine is the Deputy General Manager at Kafalat. She is responsible for managing and running daily operations. She represents Kafalat in negotiation and cooperation with international financial institutions such as the World Bank, the EBRD, and the EU.

Ms. Sarieddine is the liaison officer of the MIGA (Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency), a member of the World Bank Group, and the coordination officer with the European Union (EU) team in Lebanon. Her study on “Challenges in Implementing Pillar 1 of Basel II to Islamic Banks” was published by the Journal of Banking Regulation in the UK and as a chapter in Islamic Financing book published by Macmillan NY. She is a lecturer at the Center of Banking Studies at USJ. Prior to joining Kafalat in 2003, Ms. Sarieddine worked in the Corporate Credit department of couple of privately held Lebanese commercial banks for seven years. She holds a BA in Social Studies and an MBA from LAU. In 2009 she completed an executive course at Harvard Kennedy School on the role of Financial Institutions in Private Enterprise Development.
Dr. Josiane Fahed-Sreih

Jury Biography: Dr. Josiane Fahed-Sreih is a full time Associate Professor of Management in the School of Business at LAU. She is the founder and currently the Director of the Institute of Family and Entrepreneurial Business at LAU. She served as an Associate Chair to the department of Management and is currently the Chairperson of the departments of Hospitality Management and Marketing at LAU. She holds a Ph.D. from the Sorbonne University and is a fellow member of the Family Firm Institute, USA. Dr. Fahed-Sreih holds the responsibility of the Middle East Coordinator for the Family Firm Institute, USA. She is a Family Wealth and a Family Business Consultant. She is the winner of the 2007 International Award from the Family Firm Institute in the US, in recognition for outstanding achievement in furthering the understanding of family business issues that occur between two or more countries. She participated and organized international conferences, workshops and seminars. Dr. Fahed-Sreih has presented in major conferences locally and internationally and consulted on management issues in many countries especially in the Middle East. The countries include Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates (Dubai), Jordan, Kuwait, Syria, Bahrain, Qatar, Lebanon, and France. She currently sits on three Boards of Directors as a shareholder, a Chairman of the board, and an independent advisor in the private sector. She is also involved as an advisor on boards of community service organizations.

Dr. Fahed-Sreih speaks regularly to trade and professional groups, and presents her research in academic conferences worldwide. Her research interests are in Management, Family Business Management, Boards of Directors functioning and Corporate Governance. In 2004, she published her book in the US on “Facts and Figures concerning Family Business in Lebanon” and contributed to many compendiums on Family Business Management in the Middle East in articles, chapters in books, book reviews, and academic articles in Internationally Refereed Journals.
Dr. Fouad Zmokhol

Jury Biography: Entrepreneur, leader, author and educator, Dr. Fouad Zmokhol holds a Doctorate in Business Administration from Newport University (USA). Thanks to his visionary and strategic perspective, he coached and mentored hundreds of young entrepreneurs and inspired businessmen to preserve and develop the Lebanese economic system, with a view to boosting local and international investments.

Mrs. Roula Moussa started at a very young age right after her graduation from the engineering school as an entrepreneur and turned challenges of being a Woman in Tech into opportunities. She founded Netways, the pioneer of internet technologies and innovation in the MENA region and successfully grew the company by acquisitions and joint ventures to achieve global reach. Her contributions have been acknowledged and lauded, repeatedly, with honorary awards that include “The Lebanese Outstanding Women” in 2012 and “The Forbes 200 most powerful women in the Arab world” listing in 2014.

Mrs. Moussa realized the importance of the digital economy and focused on innovation, technology advancement and entrepreneurship as key driving forces behind economic growth and building the technology expertise of the MENA Youth.

Jury Biography: "Ms. Asmahan Zein established herself in the business field with over than four decades of experience. She entered the services industry as an independent young woman at an early age, balancing between work and study and then ventured into a number of different jobs within the services sector; from airlines executive in Lebanon to hotel management in Ivory Coast. From 1988 and for 27 years, she was among the team that started Aramex Lebanon (Transportation & Logistics Company), as Lebanon Country Manager then was assigned to different executive projects in Europe and West Africa.

She is the President of the Lebanese League of Women in Business (LLWB), Vice Chair of Amideast Advisory Board (Lebanon), Vice Chair of Ruwwad Altanmiya in Tripoli. She is also a member of the Steering Committee of UNGCL (United Nations Global Compact) and a member of the American Chamber of Commerce - AMCHAM - Chapter Lebanon.
